چکیده

To date no technique for validating crowd control models has been proposed. Usually subject matter experts “look at” the simulations and decide if what they are observing “appears” reasonable or not. One reason for this has been inability to gather quantitative data from either actual crowd footage or simulations of crowds. Since this problem is being solved by Kaup et al, it now becomes possible to consider analytical validation of crowd simulations. In this paper, we propose a quantitative approach to measuring whether or not a simulation is a valid representation of a given crowd scenario and show by example that it can differentiate among various crowd dynamics.

Mathematical Capture of Human Crowd Behavioral Data for Computational Model Building, Verification, and Validation

This paper describes the Army-funded exploratory work in progress at the Target Behavioral Response Laboratory. Crowd behavior data collected under controlled laboratory conditions form the basis for mathematical models of human behavior, which are then coded into computational models of crowd human behavior. Verification and validation can then proceed with comparisons between outputs from sim...

Numerical simulation of hull and propeller interaction in acceleration maneuver

Prediction of a ship’s trajectory during a maneuvering motion is so important. In this study, the acceleration maneuver for a twin-screw vessel is directly investigated using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) environment and unsteady RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) solver. For this purpose, the self-propulsion and acceleration simulations with hull and propeller interaction for the well-...

Verification and Validation of Common Derivative Terms Approximation in Meshfree Numerical Scheme

In order to improve the approximation of spatial derivatives without meshes, a set of meshfree numerical schemes for derivative terms is developed, which is compatible with the coordinates of Cartesian, cylindrical, and spherical. Based on the comparisons between numerical and theoretical solutions, errors and convergences are assessed by a posteriori method, which shows that the approximations...

More testers - The effect of crowd size and time restriction in software testing

Context: The questions of how many individuals and how much time to use for a single testing task are critical in software verification and validation. In software review and usability evaluation contexts, positive effects of using multiple individuals for a task have been found, but software testing has not been studied from this viewpoint. Objective: We study how adding individuals and imposi...

Can the Crowd be Controlled?: A Case Study on Crowd Sourcing and Automatic Validation of Completed Tasks based on User Modeling

Annotation is an essential step in the development cycle of many Natural Language Processing (NLP) systems. Lately, crowdsourcing has been employed to facilitate large scale annotation at a reduced cost. Unfortunately, verifying the quality of the submitted annotations is a daunting task. Existing approaches address this problem either through sampling or redundancy. However, these approaches d...
